Robot Concept Art 6
Shaun helps take over for Glen while he’s sick…again.
Yes, unfortunately I’ve been sick twice over the past two weeks with different things. (Shane caught the bucket I sneaked into the illustration from two weeks ago.) Once I start feeling better I should paint Shaun in a Frazetta-style illustration to make it up to him because finding this in my mailbox was a big relief. Thanks Shaun!
We’ve discussed using Alchemy in previous posts to give us inspiration when coming up with creature and robot designs, so here’s Shaun’s stab at that.

Thanks Glen. To note, unfortunately I didn’t copy the higher resolution image that is seen side by side with my personal elaboration above. I simply took a screenshot from the page from here on Lumaglyph and had a little two hour party. 🙂 I point this out because I see many neat and incredible shapes…those nuances in this higher resolution image (image above on left) that were not visible on the smaller one I had on file.
I often scribble with BIC pens and choose from the randomness what is interesting, much Like I have done here. I’ve since downloaded Alchemy and hope to utilize it’s capacity as well as Glen has.
Again, I would have made different decisions seeing the image as it is here….but either way, the process is the same. I make decisions and create forms that follow the design. It is really fun and allows a lot of freedom even though I am restricted to the silhouette. A whole topic could be held on the high value ‘lost and found edges’ have, and how subtle gradients push and pull form forwards and backwards…in front of or behind. I’d love to take a hack at the other silhouettes on the page of examples here: http://hackberryhollow.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/robot_alchemy.jpg but for now I am glad I could help out. 😀 Glen, get feeling better. Glad my sudden insomnia could lend a hand LOL. Enjoy everyone. (I hope I made sense) Later
