Character Design 5: Robot

Here’s this week’s prototype from the Fully-Automated Cute Factory.

We can’t say what happens when this robot appears, but we can say with full certainty that its purpose has nothing to do with nuking stuff in orbit, nuking stuff from orbit, or anything that has to do with orbits for that matter. The simple act of nuking stuff is, however, certainly not out of the question.

As for the process on this piece of concept art, I did something a little bit different, at least as far as what I show on the blog. I did a fairly tight sketch in blue pencil, and then cleaned up, modified and colored the robot with my custom pencil brushes in Photoshop. A while back I created Photoshop brushes that mimicked the art tools that I had so I could switch halfway through an illustration from traditional to digital and keep the same texture and style.

OOOOOOOO! I like Glen. 😀 I’d like one in blue. And my own parking spot for it. 😛 No, this really looks good. Awesome work.
