Robot Concept Art 5 (Part 3)

I started doing a rotation of the new robot design so I can figure out what it looks like from all angles. Getting a design for one angle of a character is just a small part of the battle. You have to design it from all sides.

You can see from this sketch that I spent half my time trying to figure out the function of the robot. How are the shoulder blades going to work? How about the camera arm? How will the robot look backwards? Will the camera have a rain guard? Would that be a moot point if the center of the torso is open like that? Those kinds of questions led to new design choices like a weather guard to close over the center of the torso when the camera doesn’t need to peep around as much.

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for my inspiration. I stumbled across this image through google images. I HAD to model it. If you’d like to see the final piece it is posted at 3dtotal.com in the forums, I hope it makes it to the main page.
